How do i get my TP-link 5 port GIGABYTE desktop switch to work ?

it is meant to be plug and play however: i have used a Ethernet cable to connect it to my router and another cable to my xbox360 but the port that the cable that is connected to both the switch and my router does not light up.

also my xbox360 does not find the gateway and DNS settings when it is connected to the switch.

i am so confused about this Sad

Bad cable? Most likely....
Gigabit ports require all 8 wires to be in good shape. Try different cables.
And, an obvious question, if the switch plugged into the power outlet?

Use one cable at a time and check the status lights. Connect to the router first, check - use different cables...
Once that works (you have link lights on both ends), then plug in the xbox - check status lights again. Whatever causes it to fail will probably be the bad cable.
