What does the number 3, 63 and 31 do in the cisco commands?
router ospf1
network 172.16.100.0 0.0.0.3 area 0
network 172.16.100.64 0.0.0.63 area 0
network 172.16.100.128 0.0.0.31 area 0

I know 0.0.0.255 does, it means that the fourth octect can be any number but what about 3, 63 and 31...I dont really understand it..please help

Those commandes represents wildcard masks. For example first command:

network 172.16.100.0 0.0.0.3 area 0

is advertising network with hosts range of 172.16.100.0 - 172.16.100.3

Second command:

network 172.16.100.64 0.0.0.63 area 0

is advertising 172.16.100.64 - 172.13.100.127

third one: 172.16.100.128 - 172.16.100.159
