Microsoft Office 2010?
I have been running MS Office 2003 on my Dell Dimension 8400 running windows XP for nearly ten years. Is it possible to install MS Office 2010 on an external hard drive and be able to use them both if need be. My reason for wanting to do this is to make sure MS Office 2010 would run OK on my machine and also gives me the time to get used to the new interface whilst having the option to fall back on 2003.

Office is one program that has to be installed on the C: drive to run. You can do a custom install and force the install on an external drive but part of it will be installed on the C:. MS also recommend uninstalling the other versions of office, but I have seen multiple versions of office installed on the same machine running before.

The newer version will always override the older version. So if you try and want to go back to the old version it may not be possible. You can try it though as long as you have the space and the product key for the old version. .

You don't need to install it on a separate drive.
You can install both versions on the same PC. I have Office 2003, Office 2007 and Office 2010 all on the same PC.
The only caveat is Outlook.
