Get a multifunction printer/scanner/copier. They scan at the same if not better quality than the older separate scanners.
Most standalone scanners were designed well before vista, and hence dont have vista drivers at all. New multifunctions on the other hand generally have good compatibility with Vista. Having a separate device, when a multifunction does better is just silly.
